A Safe Bet

The Melbourne Cup is coming. The bets are on and the races are starting. Out come the veils, cocktail dresses, large hats, gloves and what not. I have always wondered why people dress up for horse races. Perhaps traditionally, only the rich and privileged could afford betting on horses and it was a chance for young men and women to socialise. And we've carried on the tradition of dressing up to impress at horse races. I remember watching My Fair Lady. This is what Audrey Hepburn wore when Elisa went to the races.

Den Melbourne Cup ska börjar snart. Vaden är placerade och hästkapplöpningar börjar. Slöjor blev burit, cocktailklänningar, stor hattar och handskar också. Jag har alltid undrat varför folk klär upp sig på hästkapplöpningar . Kanske tidigare för att bara rik folk gå på hästkapplöpningar och var det tillfälle för unga män och kvinnor träffa. Och har vi forsatt hävden idag. Jag kommer ihåg dagen tittade på jag My Fair Lady. Den här Elisas (Audrey Hepburn) klänning på hästkapplöpningar.

The Magpie in Me and You

Attack!

Do you know Australian magpies? They're like the Pica pica and are famous for their swoops and pecks on people's head. I've been in Australia for four years and thankfully I have had a magpie in my head yet. A friend told me that magpies are attracted to things that sparkle.
What do magpies have to do with fashion?? Their love for sparkly things of course! And I am falling in love with jeweled accessories, thanks to Lanvin (check out his gorgeous jeweled shoe in my Grazia post). I think jewels are awesome on shoes, bags and also as an adornment on tops. Indeed, I may adorn my Fedora hat with some jewels. Tell me what you think :)

Vet du Australiens magpie? De ser likt picapicaen men är större. De är berömda för att slå ned besegrar på folk. Jag har bott i Australien för 4 år, och jag har inte blivit anfallits ännu. Gudskelov! En vän berättade mig att magpie älskar skina saker.
Vad måste magpie att göra med mode? Sina kärlek för skina saker, naturligtvis! Jag har stupat förälskat med skina saker, tack vare Lanvin (se hans ljuvlig skor med juvel). Juvel är ljuvlig på skor, väskor och som tillbehör på toppar tycker jag. Kanske kommer till jag pryder min fedora hat med röda och purpurfärgade juveler. Vad tycker ni?

A pink October

October is breast cancer month all over the world. Breast cancer is a huge issue among women. In Australia, as many as 11 700 women are newly diagnosed and 2600 succumb to the disease. In men, brest cancer affects at a rate of 1% that of women. So, it's still possible for men to get the disease, albeit small.

Many survivors had to face difficult moments when dealing the news of having breast cancer, going through surgery or surgeries, chemotherapy or radiotherapy and even face having to lose one or both breasts.

During breast cancer month the focus will be on research to help treatment and quality of life of individuals with breast cancer, funding as well as information for all women. On the fourth Monday of October (27th October), it will be the Pink Ribbon Day. On this day, activities to educate and bring together all women (healthy, ill and survivors). While I may not be a fan of pink, I will definitely wear something pink in support of women (and men!) with breast cancer.

Oktober är bröstcancer månad över hela världen. Bröstcancer är en väldigt hälsoproblem bland kvinnor. I Australien, 11 700 kvinnor är diagnostiserade och 2 600 dör av sjukdomen. Män kan få bröstcancer också, men i en takt på 1% jämfört med kvinnor.

Många överlevande och patienter hade många svårigheter. Diagnosen, de kirurgi, kemoterapi och radioterapi och mista en bröst eller båda bröst.

Under bröstcancer månad, fokusen är på forskning som om kurer och livskvalitet av folk med bröstcancer och överlevande. 27 Oktober är Skärt Band Dagen. Evenemanget syftar till att utbilda och föra samman människor (hälsosam, sjul och överlevande).

Jag kommer att bära något rosa, även om det inte är min favoritfärg.
